Acceptable Use Policy

1. About this policy

1.1This policy sets out what you must not do when using Metcom services. It forms part of your agreement with Metcom, together with the Metcom Terms and Conditions, the Fair Use Policy and the Critical Information Summary for your service.

1.2You are responsible for the use of your services by anyone you allow to use them, including your staff and contractors.

2. You must not use our services to

  • break any law, or help anyone else to do so
  • make nuisance, threatening, harassing or offensive calls or messages
  • send spam, or make telemarketing calls or messages that do not comply with the Spam Act 2003 or the Do Not Call Register Act 2006
  • make scam calls or messages, or impersonate another person or organisation, including through caller ID or SMS sender ID
  • display a calling number you are not authorised to use
  • infringe anyone’s intellectual property, privacy or other rights
  • resell our services without our written agreement
  • generate artificial traffic, or route calls to obtain revenue or charges

3. Network and security

3.1You must not:

  • interfere with, disrupt or attempt to gain unauthorised access to our network, systems or other customers’ services
  • distribute viruses or other harmful software
  • use our services in a way that degrades service for other customers

3.2You must keep your passwords, SIP credentials and devices secure, and tell us promptly if you suspect they have been compromised. You are responsible for charges from unauthorised use of your service until you tell us, except where it was caused by us.

4. What we may do

4.1If we reasonably believe you have breached this policy, we may contact you and ask you to stop. Where the breach is serious, or continues, we may suspend or restrict the affected service, as set out in clause 3.10 of the Terms and Conditions.

4.2Where there is a risk of harm, fraud or damage to our network, we may act immediately without notice. Where practical, we will tell you as soon as possible afterwards.

4.3We may report unlawful activity to law enforcement or regulators, and cooperate with their investigations, as required by law.

5. Reporting misuse
